Catnip, also known as Catmint, is a member of the mint family. Aside from causing euphoria for cats, it is also beloved by bees and is a prolific bloomer, with pretty white or near white flowers with purple spots, and leaves covered with soft hairs that contain volatile oils that give catnip it’s distinctive scent.
Catnip can also be used to make a delicious tea that combines well with lemon balm or chamomile. It is said to reduce stress and promote relaxation and sleep. Catnip also repels mosquitos, flies and other biting bugs, the oils produced by catnip is said to repels insects for several hours.
Catnip is an easy to grow plant and although it doesn’t send runners like other plants of the mint family, catnip sheds significant seeds as it grows.
